On November 20th 2017 Jessica Boswell, a dear friend of mine was diagnosed with an aggressive form of Stage 4 Colon cancer that had spread to multiple organs. Jess was 6 months pregnant with their 2nd baby boy and was experiencing a difficult pregnancy but the side effects ran parallel with being pregnant… Back ache, nausea, loss of appetite, fatigue, etc. The worsening symptoms lead to the discovery of the brutal cancer. In one second everything changed for the Boswell’s.
I feel like it is absolutely my responsibility to stand up and say FUCK CANCER.
I truly believe that together we are stronger. I have always had this undying drive inside of me to help others, to change lives, to inspire people around the world and make a difference no matter how big or small it may be. Most of the stuff I have done in the past has been for a cause that touches my heart. I have felt strongly about every challenge I have faced but none have ever effected me personally. Until now, I have never felt more driven and determined to stand up and fight for a cause that is SO close to me. The Boswell’s are friends to my husband and I that we consider family. I am hurting so bad inside and I know that emotion alone is unbelievably powerful.
As soon as the devastating news sunk in deep, my mind began to run wild. I can't handle the helpless feeling that is running through my body so the only thing I know to do is to take action and to do something.
I cycled and ran 828.6 miles around the entire ring road of Iceland in July with her niece Courtney, my husband Paulo, my DOA Meghan, and Jeff her husband met us towards the end of our journey. Our "why" was obviously Jessica and our mission was to dedicate the 828.6 miles to anyone and everyone that has ever been affected by cancer in anyway. We fought our way through the mission and completed it despite any set backs we came across.
This fundraiser was donated in its entirety directly to the Serene Soldier Inc. Every single cent donated was appreciated beyond what you could ever imagine as this is a cause so near and dear to my heart.
Thank you for your time and your support, Jessica’s family and I feel it for sure.
